Just minutes before the city of Ormond Beach, FL started its display of fireworks over the Halifax river. This is the Granda Bridge connecting the Florida mainland with the island commonly referred to as the Beachside.
Just minutes before the city of Ormond Beach, FL started its display of fireworks over the Halifax river. This is the Granda Bridge connecting the Florida mainland with the island commonly referred to as the Beachside. I was about 3/4 of a mile from the bridge on the banks of the river.
A great American tradition of lighting some kind of fireworks to "compete" with the approved public displays. This was in the middle of a residential street where this lone fireworks displayer attracted a "crowd" of nearly 4 people.
Hundreds of thousands of dollars to millions were spent by various cities to put on a awe inspiring ballet of fireworks in the skies around the U.S.A. and yet a young boy of 15 received applause, joyous laughter and squeals of delight from onlookers as he set off his $49.95 box of fireworks.
On a windless Florida 4th of July in 2008 this flag graced the front yard of a house and represents the countless flags in front of countless houses throughout America.
The passing of the torch so to speak. The rite of manhood. Coming of age. A young boy learns the honored techniques of lighting a bottle rocket. He isn't thinking about the 25 years in the future when he will be passing this time honored tradition on to his offspring.
Three generations----grandmother, mother, daughter----watching Fireworks together. It was but "moments" ago that this grandmother was the daughter sharing these events with her mother and grandmother.
